@TechRelate we look for innovation every day. As a business grows the adoption of innovative tools to meet the changing needs of that organisation could put one above the competition, therefore if you want to gain competitive advantage embracing innovation is key. I’ve always known we were good at finding and testing new products also we are not afraid of being up front when a product doesn’t meet our expectations – although when it does we are keen to offer this product to relevant clients.

For these reasons we decided to start Colin’s Crib, as you can see on this page!

Our support team are technology enthusiasts and I decided to incorporate this testing into our everyday business activities. Below you will see a list of “TExperiments”, a term we coined to provide you easy insight into hardware or software we think might be relevant to our clients.

This is by no means an overview of products we can work on, but rather our way of staying on top of business technology and communicating new and exciting things that maybe we intend to offer or not as the case may be.

These are some of the challenges we are looking to solve:

  • Business communication speed, reliability and data archives.
  • Network and data security.
  • Mobility, ease of access and collaboration.

If you have a products you’d like us to test for you, or a TExperiment you can recommend please email us on innovation@techrelate.co.uk or tweet us on @TechRelate

Product

  • Solar Winds Web user Monitor
  • EFolder trial
  • SkyKick
  • Spector CNE
  • Slack
  • Open DNS Home
  • Office 365 Rights Management Service (RMS)

Expectations

  • Be able to monitor individuals web usage without the installation of client software or proxies
  • Expectations were to have a products that could be used for storage, that is cloud based and can integrate with servers and not duplicate files
  • Cloud backup to Microsoft Azure for Exchange Online, Sharepoint
  • Configurable User Monitoring, capturing screenshots, keyboard tracking and anything the user is doing on the computer
  • Easier way of having a team chat compared to using round-robin emails.
  • Hoping to limit inappropriate web content in order to protect the family
  • Office 365 email encryption and document security

Findings

  • Support is good and interface is friendly, very effective and expensive but priced out of the SME market
  • This application was easy to use, great admin interface and fast download. You can sync with servers to create a shared drive and can also lock documents when being used by a user.
  • Worked very well to backup mailboxes and files, and allow individual mailbox item recovery. Sharepoint it will backup file versions, however for mailbox items like tasks or calendar items it doesn't backup versions so its use maybe limited. Currently only backs up to Azure US data-centres so may have problems with Safe Harbour. Support team were very helpful and quick to answer questions although only in US hours.
  • Comprehensive product that can be silently and centrally managed, expensive but very effective
  • Expensive to get desired features, however free version is great but basic. Never had to use the Slack support, it simply works well. Would like to see SSO with free version.
  • Set up in minutes and working effortlessly, really happy with functionality. For business a paid version is available including support.
  • Email encryption very effective, allows encrypted replies from recipient. Document security very clever and secure stops forwarding or sharing documents.
